Dr. George Young Website

Dear Visitor:

Welcome to my website.  After twenty five years of writing poems, it was time to have a website of my own.  I invite you to browse through dozens of pages with some of my best poems. And I am glad to introduce you to the beautiful photographs my wife Peg has taken. You will find them nicely integrated into the site.
While this is not a website with a primarily intended commercial character, due to popular demand, we have also added information where certain publications can be ordered. I hope you enjoy reading my poems; and if you take the time to contact me by electronic mail, I promise to read your message.  Thank you for visiting my website.

                                  Henry David Thoreau, Journal

Late on the third day, at the very moment

when, at sunset, we were making our way through
a herd of hippopotamuses, there flashed through
my mind, unforeseen and unsought, the phrase,
"Reverence for Life."

               The Consolation Of Poetry

The terrible truth in the dust at your feet: you exist
                     but you might not.

                   And yet, some recompense:

a wisp of white goose down magically skating
                      across the lake--

                   amid trash, a violet flowering--

in a pool on a parking lot after a rain, the pearl
                      of a cloud drifting--

and best: the file of your life thrown on the bonfire,
ash and sparks rising, the metaphor.
